Coco Market Goes Pink Returns to Delray Beach with a Free Breast Reconstruction Q&A, Ask Me Anything

Second annual breast cancer awareness market partners with national nonprofit BRCAStrong. No admission and no tickets needed

Coco Market runs the first Sunday of every month and has always been free. Dozens of local, independent small businesses set up across the lawn alongside free yoga, sound healing, live music and family programming, and no one has ever paid to walk in. The October event keeps all of that and adds a layer of support and education for anyone touched by breast cancer, whether they are in treatment, years past it, carrying a genetic risk, or caring for someone who is.

From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., anyone can sit down with a plastic and reconstructive surgeon and ask about breast reconstruction. No appointment, no referral, no cost. Dr. Liza C. Wu, MD, MBA, FACS of Privé Plastic Surgery in Boca Raton will hold the window at the BRCAStrong tent.

Reconstruction is one of the least discussed parts of a breast cancer diagnosis and one of the hardest to ask about. The questions usually arrive at the worst possible moment, in an exam room days after a diagnosis, with a decision already on the table. This is a chance to ask them early, with nothing being decided and no chart open.

The market falls on the first Sunday of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the weekend after National Hereditary Cancer Week.

In partnership with BRCAStrong

This year's edition is presented in partnership with BRCAStrong, the national nonprofit that has delivered nearly 11,500 pre-mastectomy care packages and supported more than 13,500 people impacted by breast and gynecologic cancers.

Their tent will offer the surgeon Q&A, free self-exam cards designed to hang in the shower, and breast health and genetic risk resources all day. At 10:30 a.m., Rachel Sobel, author of Breast Case Scenario, hosts a Survivor, Previvor & Thriver Meetup that wraps as the Q&A begins.

"Education shouldn't only happen inside a hospital or conference room. It needs to happen where people live, gather, and feel comfortable asking questions. By bringing BRCAStrong to Coco Market and giving the community direct access to experts like Dr. Wu, we're removing barriers and creating a space where someone can ask a question without an appointment, a referral, or a copay. One conversation can lead to earlier detection, prevention, and ultimately save a life."

Brie Mazin, Florida Yoga Mama

Brie has had a deeply personal connection to breast cancer throughout her life. Her grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer, and during college, breast cancer awareness was the philanthropy supported by her sorority, further deepening her connection to the cause. Over the years, Brie has had the opportunity to participate in numerous breast cancer walks and events and to share the stories of survivors, including interviewing Hoda Kotb of the TODAY Show. Supporting those impacted by breast cancer has remained a meaningful part of Brie's journey, making the opportunity to bring yoga and wellness to this event especially significant.

The rest of the day

Morning programming runs in the Healing Oasis: yoga at 9 a.m. with Florida Yoga Mama, a four-practitioner sound healing at 10 a.m., and Somatic Self-Love with Jacqueline Burbage, C-IAYT at 11 a.m. Keha Wellness leads The Medicine of Tea at 11:30, Cacao Sol holds a heart opening cacao ceremony at noon, and DJ Medley closes the day with ecstatic dance from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

Four quiet installations run all day and are open to anyone: a ribbon arch where visitors write a message or the name of someone they hold close, candles of remembrance, letters written on seeded paper to take home and plant, and a book swap. The Family Forest offers kids yoga and a drop-in art table with Mobile Art Teacher, kept deliberately untouched by the theme. Dozens of local small businesses vend across the lawn.

Free, by design

There is no admission, no ticket needed. Coco Market has been free since it began in 2022 and October is no exception.

Geolocation analysis commissioned by the Delray Beach Downtown Development Authority found that roughly four out of five visitors on Coco Market Sundays travel in from outside Delray Beach, drawing foot traffic into the downtown district from across Palm Beach and Broward counties.

Coco Market Goes Pink is supported by partners Vajra Jahra and House of Kaivalya.
